I wanted to find a really nice place to celebrate my mom’s birthday that was not too far from Florida! As I thought of different places, I remembered a previous travel venture where I stayed overnight in Savannah, GA and began to reminisce about its beautiful, historical, southern charm! Here are some ideas for getting the most out of Savannah in three days…
Now let’s tRavel iN style!
Day 1
We stayed at the JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District, which contained three amazing buildings that were enriched in history and unique architecture: the Three Muses, Power Plant, and Atlantic. We stayed in the Three Muses, which had European classic and eccentric artwork throughout the building. The Power Plant building was an actual old power plant that had been restored and decorated with dinosaur artifacts, rocks, crystals, minerals, and fossil artwork. It had better restaurant options than the other buildings. The Atlantic building had a more contemporary and maritime concept.
We dined at the Electric Moon Skytop Lounge + The Moon Deck, a rooftop bar connected to the Power Plant building. Everything on the menu was delicious! Trust me when I say that we cleaned all of our plates!
Afterwards, we did a little shopping by the River Street Boardwalk and stopped to the Savannah Bee Company. Everything in the store was made with honey, including barbecue sauce, lotion, wine, chap-stick…you name it! They had a variety of honey flavors, but my favorite was the wildflower, which I love adding to hot tea.
Day 2
We went on the Kelly Tours Savannah Land & Sea Tour. This tour included a complimentary pick-up shuttle that transported us from the hotel to the tour site, and get this…we had access to the shuttle for two days! The tour consisted of a guided city-trolley land tour, followed by a sightseeing river-cruise. The commentators on the trolley and the cruise were phenomenal! You would definitely experience southern hospitality during the entire excursion.
The name of my cruise ship package was the Savannah: Riverboat Cruise & City Tour Combo. The cruise ship that included a southern-style lunch buffet was the Savannah: Sightseeing “Lunch” Cruise.
We later walked to the City Market, which had lots of options for eating, drinking, and shopping. We enjoyed many art galleries, cafes and one of my favorite daiquiri spots, Wet Willies.
For dinner, we ate at the BAO BAB Lounge, an African restaurant located in the Power Plant building. This place was so rich with African culture and beautiful art pieces collected from many different regions of Africa. You could view the art catalog, which included all of the art pieces displayed in the restaurants, the description of the art, and a write-up about each artist. The food was great, but my favorite was the dessert (Malva Pudding with pistachio, toffee crumbs, and roasted peaches). YUMMY!
Day 3
On our last day in Savannah, we went to the Turbine Market + Cafe for breakfast. This cafe was a part of the Power Plant building, and the food was absolutely delicious! If you like goat cheese and avocado, the egg-white scramble bowl would be a great choice!
After breakfast, we went to the Tybee Island Beach, which was 25 minutes from the hotel. There was paid parking at the cost of $4 per hour. It was a really nice beach that had a fishing dock, cocktail stand, food stand, and ice cream parlor.
[FYI…You should try the blueberry-cheesecake ice cream on a waffle cone. It was DELISH!]
