The Volunteer State
The travel nurse assignment in Nashville, Tennessee was special because this was where it all started for me in 2020, as a new (staff) NICU nurse at this same Children’s Hospital. This hospital provided me with the best skills, experiences, and opportunities that helped me thrive as a traveling NICU nurse. Therefore, when I saw the opportunity to return to my “old stomping ground” as a travel NICU nurse, I told my recruiter to submit my application of interest, immediately.
If you are considering a travel nurse assignment in Nashville, TN, make sure to check out the resources provided below:
- Hospital: VUMC Children’s Hospital. Level IV NICU.

- Transportation: Drive or Lyft/Uber.
- Hospital Parking: $96.60 for 3 months. Garage parking. Security onsite.
- Assignments: Mixed Acuity: 1:2-3 nurse to patient ratio. Low Acuity: 1:3-4 nurse to patient ratio. If you have a 4-baby assignment, you are assigned a care partner (tech), if available, to help with 2 of your patients for vitals, baths, etc.
- Floating: No floating. This is a large NICU.
In conclusion, the travel nurse assignment in Nashville, TN was nostalgic for me, but it was super busy on the unit. The unit had neighborhoods, such as low or mixed acuity, tiny babies, and a tracheotomy floor. Although the unit was busy, they tried their best to make sure the assignments were appropriate and provided plenty of help and resources.
