During my travel nurse assignment in Indianapolis, Indiana, I was able to attend a few events, whenever my work schedule permitted me to. I did not get out-and-about too often, but I made the best of my time on my days off. Here are some of the exciting activities and awesome restaurants that I really enjoyed…

Now let’s tRavel iN style!

Gainbridge Fieldhouse

The Gainbridge Fieldhouse was an indoor arena, hosting multiple events e.g., concerts, sports competitions, comedy shows, and more! I attended my first WNBA game, in which Indiana Fever was the home team of that game. Although, the infamous Caitlin Clark was not playing in that game due to a previous injury, I still had a blast!

In addition, I attended the Katt Williams: Heaven On Earth Tour comedy show where the surprise guest comedian Monique, from the sitcom The Parkers, was the MC for that night. There were several other special guest comedian appearances, which made the show even more exciting. Of course, Katt had us laughing non-stop! That was my second time attending one of his comedy shows, and he was just as hilarious as the first time that I saw him!

Murals & Buildings

I was amazed at the many black-movement murals/figures that were painted/posted around downtown Indy, especially the huge mural of Madam C.J. Walker (first black female/self-made millionaire)!

History Nugget: Madam C.J. Walker was actually born in Louisiana, but moved to Indianapolis and established the headquarters for her manufacturing company. Isn’t that cool!?!

Restaurants

Black Leaf Vegan Cafe

This was one of my favorite black/family-owned vegan restaurants in downtown Indy, on the Canal. Everything on their menu was absolutely delicious! My favorite menu items were the burgers and quesadillas. I tried out the Gut Punch Wellness drink, recommended by the café owner, which tasted really great. The owner stated that the wellness drink was good for your immune system, especially during the cold winter months.

Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants

I really love a good glass of wine; therefore, I made time to visit the Cooper’s Hawk Winery. My favorite wine was the Cooper’s Hawk Scarletto, which was a sweet, sparkling, red wine that paired nicely with Jambalaya for dinner. For dessert, I chose the S’More Budino (caramel custard, chocolate mousse, toasted graham crackers), in which the hostess gave me a sample taste of the Vin Chocolat Almond wine to pair with the dessert!

His Place Eatery: Chicken & Waffles, Ribs & Soul Food

I wanted to try out the black-owned, soul food restaurant that I’d seen on Guy Fieri’s Food Network tv show, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. The restaurant did not disappoint! It had so many great menu options to choose from, but what really caught my attention was the collard greens-grilled cheese sandwich! I had never heard of that type of sandwich before, but let me tell you, it was soooo DELICIOUS! It literally made my soul happy. I finished it off with a mini sweet potato cheesecake for dessert (chef’s kiss). I only visited the restaurant once and made sure of it because I do not think I would have ever left that place, smh.

Kulture Bar & Bistro

After the Katt Williams comedy show, my friend and I visited Kulture, which was a nice lounge with good food, drinks, music, and vibes. We ordered the catfish and grits, and lamb chops. Everything was quite flavorful and delicious!
