My travel partner and I took a quick trip to Portland, Maine while on a travel nurse assignment in New Hampshire. The state of Maine is located at the northeast tip of the USA! We visited for two days for a much needed break from work.

Now let’s tRavel iN style!

Day 1

We stayed at the Hampton Inn Portland Downtown- Waterfront hotel, which was located in a great area and within walking distance to many city attractions. We walked to the Old Port District where there were souvenir shops, clothing boutiques, and gourmet dining. We also walked along the Long Wharf dock where several cruise ships, sail boats, and yachts boarded and departed. A piece of the Berlin Wall could be found right on Long Wharf, as well.

If you ever visit Portland, make sure to try out the Duck Fat restaurant! I wish I would have taken pictures, but I forgot all about selfie pics once my delicious food arrived….so there were no pictures taken at the restaurant. Sorry, FOP (Food Over Pictures, lol).

Day 2

On our last day in Portland, we went to the The Holy Donut restaurant for breakfast, which served gourmet donuts in a variety of flavors, such as blueberry glaze, maple glaze, cinnamon sugar, and even donuts topped with BACON! But, the donuts were just “ok”. I was not impressed with them at all; I thought that they would taste much better.

Next, we headed to the Land and Sea Combo Tour: Portland City and Lighthouse & Harbor Lights and Sights Cruise. The tour guide stated that a lot of Floridians lived there and also mentioned that their seafood did not taste too “fishy” like the seafood from the southern parts of the USA. One of my favorite parts of the tour was the visit to the Portland Head Light (the iconic and oldest lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine) located on the ravishing shores of Fort Williams Park.

Later, we ate lunch at the Portland Lobster Co. restaurant. My travel partner ordered the lobster-roll sandwich, and I ordered the fried shrimp-roll sandwich. I felt more comfortable eating the shrimp, than the lobster. Maybe I will be brave enough to try lobster on another trip.

Finally for dinner, we ate at the Honey Paw restaurant. I liked the food and loved the vibe, even more. We ordered the Pad Mee Korat noodle bowl, which was quite tasty. The cocktails were refreshing and tasty, as well.
