As a registered nurse, the highest priority for my patients is always SAFETY FIRST, which is as simple as washing my hands before touching patients. As a traveling registered nurse, the highest priority for myself is also safety first. There are eight essential tools that I use for safety and protection during each travel nurse assignment (or even when traveling for leisure).

Now let’s tRavel iN style!

1. Adjustable Door Stopper

The door stopper was the first safety tool that I used during my initial travel assignment. It may not seem like much, but it was quite helpful with keeping me safe. The cool thing about the door stopper is, it adjusts to many door handle heights.

2. Portable Door Lock

The portable door lock is another great safety tool to use; however, it may not fit all door types. It is designed to fit doors that open inwards only.

3. Car Camera (Dash-Cam)

I think everyone should invest in a dash-cam. I finally invested in one after my Texas assignment because of the aggressive drivers! My dash-cam has a front and back camera, with a SIM card to save the camera recordings.

4. Indoor Camera

Another great investment is an indoor camera. I use the Blink mini indoor camera that has features, such as motion detection during the day/night, live stream, audio through smartphones, etc.

NOTE: The indoor camera has to be connected to WIFI in your residence and the Blink App must be downloaded.

5. Stun Gun

Stun guns (or tasers) can be purchased from local pawnshops, sporting good stores, or online. My stun gun was given to me as a gift. It has a velcro case, built-in flash light and plug-in charger.

6. Steering Wheel Lock

Did you know that there is a seat belt version?! The steering wheel/seat belt lock is super easy to use and comes with keys to lock/unlock them together. It is very sturdy and locks into your seatbelt; therefore, please do not misplace the keys, lol!

7. Carbon Monoxide Detector

It is paramount to have a carbon monoxide detector in your place of residence when traveling. I purchased the portable, plug-in detector that has an alarm.

8. Air Tags

I place AirTags in my luggage at the airport, in spite of the airline luggage tracking apps. I need that extra security for my own sanity. I also place one in my car whenever it is being transported to/from my travel assignment locations.
