Houston is so big that it feels like it takes two hours to get from one side of town to the other side! There are so many things to do there, but I only jotted down my favorite top things that I enjoyed the most. By the way, Houston was the location of my first travel assignment…
Now let’s tRavel iN style!
1. The POST
Your first stop in downtown Houston should be at the POST. If you want the culture, food, and entertainment experience within one setting, that is the place to be! And you definitely need to go to the Skylawn rooftop to see the amazing view of the city skyline. My favorite restaurant in the POST was a black-owned restaurant called ChòpnBlọk, which served West African cuisine. My favorite meals were the scrumptious Motherland Curry and the Motherland with an Oga Palmer. My mouth waters just thinking about these meals. You have to try them out!

2. Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park
This park is known as one of the most visited, iconic landmarks in the uptown Houston District. The park was embedded with live oak trees, with a 64 foot semi-circular water wall. The park was named after the late Gerald D. Hines, an American real estate developer based in Houston. This is a must see site!

3. State Fare Kitchen & Bar
They served local, southern favorites e.g., hushpuppies, chicken fried ribeye steak, and crab cakes. They also served delicious frozen cocktails, and if you could not choose which one you liked, you had the option to order a sampler of all flavors! The samplers were called “Flights”.
4. Turkey Leg Hut
You definitely need to visit this black-owned restaurant to try their famous turkey legs! I ordered the Hennessy-Glazed Leg. The flavor was mouth-watering and the meat was literally falling off of the bone. Make sure to get there early because the line tends to get long enough to wrap around the building.

5. Mo’ Better Brews
This was my absolute favorite, black-owned, vegan, breakfast restaurant. All of the food and beverages on the menu were 100% vegan. My favorite entree was the flavorful Chik’n Fried Shrooms & Grits. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was very “chilled” and laid back.

6. FACES
This was a nice, upscale lounge that served a variety of delicious cocktails. It also had live entertainment, food trucks, DJs and a patio lounge. My travel partner, Alondra and I visited on an R&B night and had soooo much fun. We probably had too much fun, lol.

7. Moxies
This was another one of my favorite restaurants to visit. I was especially fond of their signature cocktails, desserts, and various hand-crafted menu options. They had great appetizers, as well. Oh, and by the way, it was located directly across from the Galleria Mall (very dangerous combination, lol).

8. The People’s Rink
I cannot remember the last time I went skating and it really showed that night. You would have thought I was walking for the first time ever, from the way I was skating. Of course, I fell right on my sacrum, as some over-confident dude began to skate between me and my friends Shaquelle and Chanelle (travel coworkers). So, I ended up scooting right to the kids section skated in there. I must say, the vibe there was very cool, especially when the nostalgic R&B music was playing.

9. Toyota Center
If you are in Houston during the basketball season, make sure to catch one or more of the games! The Toyota Center hosts many events, including scubas sports games, concerts, and comedy shows!
