The New England

I had never traveled that far “up state” before, but there I was, going on a travel-nurse assignment to Manchester, New Hampshire. I could barely find New Hampshire on the U.S.A. map, but somehow, landed an assignment in the biggest city in that state. It was comical for me to think that the city of Manchester would be similar to New York or even Boston in any way. However, it was quite the opposite of the two cities; it was a small, calm little town.

I enjoyed the mild traffic and calm city-life, especially compared to the bigger cities where I previously worked, such as Houston (TX). I must say that I saved a lot of money on expenses, e.g., gas, entertainment, and groceries. I stayed within close proximity of the hospital where I worked, and there were a plethora of great diners/restaurants, and grocery stores, which resulted in rarely moving my vehicle from its parking space. These cost savings allowed me to travel to the bigger, surrounding states, e.g., New York, Massachusetts, Maine, and Rhode Island.

The hospital had a smaller NICU, with 30+ beds. The unit was very “travel friendly”. One of the main Charge Nurses who I worked with was the bomb.com! I wish all Charge Nurses were like her. She was an inspiring, empowering, and motivating leader.

In conclusion, I would recommend taking a travel-nurse assignment in Manchester, New Hampshire especially, if you are comfortable with taking care of the moms, as well the babies, in the event of being floated to the Mother/Baby Unit. My mother/baby experience definitely came in handy with this assignment. Although it was a smaller city compared to New York or Boston, it offered a peaceful and calm city life.
